Things to do before going on a vacation

• Notify Friends and Relatives about your plans for travel. Make sure they can enter the house if necessary. Plan to have a neighbor or friend check on the house while you are away.
• Put a stop on your mail delivery and newspapers so that mail and newspapers do not build up.
• If applicable make plans to have someone mow the lawn or shovel the driveway while you are away.
• If you have plants arrange for someone to water them or buy a self watering kit.
• Make sure all dishes are clean the sink is free of food. Clean all toilets and take out the trash.
• Turn down the heat or air conditioning. Turn down water heater. No need to heat water while you are away.
• Make sure oven is shut off and fridge/freezer is shut tight. Shut off water to washing machine. Make sure no toilets are running.
• Make sure all smoke alarms have been changed. You don’t want firefighters breaking down the door when you are gone because a smoke alarm was set off from a dead battery
• Pay all bills that will be due while you are away.
